Common questions

How do I get started?

Open Rent and follow the setup steps. Choose your property type, enter its name, and add the rent amount and tracking month. A single home needs only one rentable unit. Tenant names and contact details can be added later.

Does Rent collect payments?

No. Rent records money you already received through a service such as Zelle or Venmo, a bank transfer, or cash. It does not connect to your bank or move money.

What is the difference between receipt date and rent month?

The receipt date is when you actually received the money. The rent month is the month that payment covers. A payment received in December for November belongs to November’s rent balance, while a receipt report uses its actual December receipt date.

How do split payments work?

Add a payment portion for each amount, date, or method. Enter only that portion’s amount. For one receipt covering multiple rent months, enter each month’s share separately.

How do I correct or undo something?

Edit the record to correct its details. After a change, Undo can reverse your latest action during the current session. Deleted records remain in Settings → Recently Deleted, where you can restore them. Major deletions require the record’s name and a second confirmation.

How does iCloud sync work?

Use the same Apple Account for iCloud on your iPhone and Mac, and use the same release of Rent. Changes save locally first and transfer when iCloud is available. Open both apps and compare the records to check that changes arrived. A refresh checks local records and iCloud status; it cannot force Apple’s sync service to finish immediately.

Can I export my records?

Settings offers payment CSV and structured backup exports. Reports and invoices also have export or share actions. Keep copies somewhere safe. The structured backup is export-only; this version does not include one-click backup restoration.

Are reports tax returns or net income?

No. Reports summarize recorded receipts by their actual receipt dates. Rent does not track expenses, calculate net profit, or file taxes. Different currencies are shown separately.

What devices are supported?

Rent is designed for iPhone with iOS 17 or later and Mac with macOS 14 or later. Some visual effects depend on your operating system. A device must support the required operating system.
